Now, before I had purchased a great coffeemaker (or five), I had a hard time narrowing it down as I had no idea what aspects of a coffeemaker made it…good! One of the first ones I had purchased on my own was the Cuisinart DCC-1150BK before the current one I have that I got for Christmas a couple of years ago. Simple in functionality, features of this coffeemaker include:
- Fully automatic capabilities.
- 1-4 cup settings.
- Brew pause function.
- Self-cleaning function.
- 60-second reset
One of the most desirable features of the DCC-1150BK is the fact that it is fully automatic, and is capable of creating 10-12 cups (depending on the model you choose to purchase), as well as its double-wall insulation. In having this, you won’t have to worry about your coffee becoming too cold before it even hits your cup. Unfortunately, for cheap models on the market currently, this is a problem I had faced way too often. On top of that, it is probably one of the cheapest Cuisinart coffee maker you can find in the market.
Has a 24-hour programmable mode
With 24-hour programmable mode and a 60-second reset function, you’re able to create a cup whenever you want and even continue brewing a cup that you were mid-creation before with the reset feature. The reset function remembers where you were in the brewing process and continues on creating. Maybe your power went out and you had a rough day (it’s happened to me before, living somewhere with bipolar weather), and completely forgot about your coffee until you had to make it again the next day or so. The reset feature is your best friend and one of the primary reasons I would recommend the DCC-1150BK over any model on the market.
Who doesn’t love a machine that’s capable of self-cleaning? While you may have to do some manual cleaning every once in a great while, you won’t have to worry about cleaning thoroughly every week as the DCC-1150BK does that for you. Also equipped with a brew pause function, you’re able to pause where you were (this feature goes hand in hand with the reset function), and allows you to enjoy the cup of coffee you were originally meant to have.
The addition of a gold tone filter and a charcoal water filter allows the freshest of coffee to brew into your cup. You won’t have stale, bland or weak coffee anymore (unless you make it that way), and you’ll be dying for more when you get home from work. Be careful though, as this is dangerous when you work from home – you won’t be able to get enough! Other features include:
- Shower head for even water distribution into coffee.
- A filter basket for holding a permanent filter or a paper filter (your choice).
- Easy to open and fill reservoir.
- Thermal Carafe for easy fill and no drip.
- Audible notification of end stages of brewing (five beeps).
If you’re a coffee newbie, the aforementioned features are fantastic, especially the audible notification. When I was younger and just getting into the “cool” thing of drinking coffee, I’ve “burnt” and improperly made so many cups, I thought I would never touch coffee again. Thankfully, I had the help of some well-created coffeemakers to help me regain my adult card and enjoy a proper cup of joe.
It’s like having a UPS!
Besides the favorite feature that I already mentioned, another advantage of this coffeemaker is the power loss back-up system. Say you’re in the middle of something and brewing a cup of coffee: the power goes out, but the generator picks it back up quickly. Thanks to the “power loss back-up system” your information is held for up to a minute and continues on creating your delicious coffee. We can only assume that newer models will feature a longer time than sixty seconds, but if your power is out for a longer period of time, you may be too focused on other things to think about drinking it.
Minimal work to get a cuppa joe
Beyond these features, this coffeemaker has simple to read and use buttons for minimal work needed in order to create the best cup of coffee. The only thing that would make this better is if someone brought the coffee directly to you in bed. A disadvantage of this coffeemaker would be that the screen is a little smaller and not as large compared to some other coffeemaker models, but it’s still legible and doesn’t interfere with the performance of this coffeemaker. On this screen, you’ll find the time of day and set times for the functions that require automatic programming. If you’re wanting to create a cup of coffee in advance, you’ll find this information here, so don’t get worried!
If you’re wondering about the structure of this coffeemaker, there is a heating plate that is not only scratch resistant, but has a non-stick coating just in case you’re worried about possible spillage and cleaning. The hands-free lid of the carafe is also super convenient as you can pour this double-insulated carafe with ease and you don’t have to worry about needing two hands. For those who have kids, this coffee maker was made with you in mind!
At the end of the day, the price, versatility in features, and the fantastic performance of the Cuisinart DCC-1150BK are all reasons why I would recommend to a family member, friend, or even an enemy (yes, it’s THAT good… no one should be rid of this coffee magic). Unfortunately, we don’t have a ready signal for this review, signifying the end, but the DCC1150BK coffeemaker does! Signaling the end of the brewing phase with five beeps, you’ll be able to receive an audible notification that’s not annoying nor super loud. At just the right decibel amount, I’ll prepare you now and say that you WON’T dread hearing this joyous beeping sequence.
