Not as well-known of a brand, the Zojiruhi EC-YSC100 Coffeemaker is still one that’s highly rated amongst the users. I’ll admit that I was a bit taken back when I tried this at a friend’s house, because it wasn’t a name I had heard or seen before, but the design was attractive and intriguing. While the design of this coffeemaker is tall, it looks like a professional machine and for the price – it can’t be beat. As you can see, I enjoy the output of this machine and would recommend it. However, I’ll review it a bit more in-depth. Features of this coffeemaker include:

  • Unique 10-cup thermal carafe.
  • Removable water tank for easy filling.
  • Thumb-activated pouring for smooth serving.
  • Guaranteed brewing temperature over 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Automated self-cleaning cycle.

Right off the bat, once you lay eyes on this machine and get a load of these features (and coffee), you’ll be raving about the Zojirushi, too! The 10 cup capable carafe is not only large, but is made out of a thick stainless steel material made for thermal properties. In having this, your coffee stays warm all day. Unfortunately, and this is a personal preference, the only disadvantage is that it’s not glass. I prefer glass over thermal because I like to monitor the levels. However, I would easily say that this machine produces some of the best coffee I’ve ever tasted outside of a professional coffee shop.

It also has a removable tank!

The removable water tank makes it easy for you to refill water with one or two hands. The unique design of the machine allows you to monitor the levels as you’re producing your product. In having this, you can conveniently watch and be visually notified when you need to fill it up. Let’s also discuss the off-beat thumb activated feature for pouring. In having this feature, you can serve the coffee smoothly without losing the optimal temperature from inside. The thumb activation allows the “portal” to open up and serve the coffee. Without this activation, you won’t have to worry about dripping or the loss of heat from the carafe. Speaking of drip, there is a prevention mechanism for when the carafe is removed from the unit so you won’t have to worry about spilling everywhere when you remove it and for when you pour it. While it’s not a big deal, it’s a little convenient feature that is just the icing on the cake.

It has the optimal brewing temperature

Speaking of temperature, the optimal brewing temperature that this machine promises and creates is at a steady 200 degrees and above (depending on your settings). In having this, the extraction of your coffee is blissful and delicious. Many coffee machines that I’ve worked with have a temperature of 178 degrees maximum, which is fine and does the job, but you can really taste the difference when there’s a slight tweak in the temperature. A temperature as such combined with the vacuum insulated stainless steel carafe, you’ll have the richest tasting coffee without doing much work (if any) at all.

Even after two hours, the carafe is still above 158 degrees Fahrenheit based on your starting water temperature of around 58 degrees Fahrenheit. The aforementioned temperature is actually room temperature water. If you’re going from ice cold water, you won’t have as good of results. The heat retention of this coffeemaker can stay at a standstill for 125 degrees Fahrenheit for 24 hours straight – a feature as such means this machine is extremely promising and yet another reason why I have recommended it to colleagues in the past.
Unlike some glass models, the carafe of this coffeemaker can be taken anywhere and served with your snacks. Sleek and attractive in design, you’ll feel as if you’re receiving a luxurious hotel breakfast in bed when you bring this up to your room. Last but not least, the automated cleaning cycle makes it easy for you to have delicious tasting coffee without experiencing (or tasting) the excess build up. With the Zojirushi, you can have fresh coffee and always.

The measurements of this machine are slightly important, and it weights a bit more than most conventional coffeemakers. Being at 9 pounds (base weight), the measurements are 8 x 10.6 x 14.9 – yes, you read that right! The Zoijrushi is almost 15 inches in height. Regardless, I would highly recommend this machine to anyone as the price is fantastic and so is the product that I continuously shovel through my mouth during lunches with my family.
