It all started with a stupid bet on a late night in a hotel – who could drink the maximum amount of coffee without hurling (yes we had nothing better to do). And so it began. My counterpart gave up after his 6th. I went on till 11. Of course I literally had to be peeled off the ceiling after that and was hysterical for hours but let’s not talk about that. Since then coffee has been a constant companion and an equal contributor in getting me to scrape through college.

Pulling all those all nighters finishing assignments, partying all night long and then pretending to be awake and attentive in an 8 am lecture wouldn’t have been possible without this magical potion made from cherries (not beans!). Seriously, if coffee was a religion, everyday would be Merry Xmas for me.

When I started working, a lot of my hard earned bucks went to the coffee shops too. I might as well have gone to them and handed over my paycheck directly. Long story short, after being a tired of trying to tell the coffee guys at the shops just how to make the coffee, I decided to go for my own machine. I think I read a thousand of reviews only in 2016. Finally, the search ended at Mixpresso Single Cup Coffee Maker (for Keurig Cups).

Using it is Fairly Easy

The first thing that strikes you is the water reservoir is at the back of the machine instead of the side. The shape is cylindrical rather than the usual oblong and more user-friendly. It has a capacity of 45 oz. The front end has no unnecessary frills and is to the point. The buttons include an option to choose the cup size and another one to switch it on. The drip tray is removable and suitable for cups up to 6.5 inch. On the left side is a water meter to show its level with the help of a red floating ball. It also has these amazing built in blue LED lights.

There are three cup sizes- 6 oz, 8oz and 10 oz respectively. It is compatible for all types of cups which suits me because I find the k- cups a tad too expensive. There is also an automatic shut off option with 3 time limits – 15 minutes, 1 hour and 2 hours. It takes about 30 seconds to pre heat which is pretty fast. I use it often for hot water for a midnight snack.

Design of Mixpresso Coffeemaker

As for its build, this is one solid machine. It looks sleek and because of the reservoir location, uses less space and can be placed almost anywhere. The blue lights are a big part of the charm. It is black at the sides, drip tray and brew head (partly). The rest is a mix of gray and silver with the front panel being entirely gray. As far as looks are concerned, I would give it a straight A+.

Ideal for K-Cup Brewing

The best way to make it work is to prime it before making the coffee and after that, you can put in your K-cup. While you’re doing so, you can see all the lights flashing which means the machine isn’t ready for use. Once you’ve put in the cup and shut it, the lights stop blinking and you can brew your coffee after selecting your brew size. While brewing, it makes this vibrating sound but nothing very noisy. Also the water/coffee is hotter than what my previous maker could manage and that really makes a difference between a good and a superb coffee. For me personally, this is a fabulous example of engineering and design.
