My tryst with coffee began just after I had started hitting the gym. Till then I really wasn’t much of a coffee person. Instead my drink of choice was tea. Several of my buddies there advised that caffeine would help with the weight loss and that it was good for muscle training and body building. Essentially it acts as a stimulant for the body and helps releasing dopamine, a hormone which has a feel -good effect. My friends explained that it also dulls the muscle pain while at the same time increasing the stamina (they used a bunch of other words but that was all lost on me).
What I did understand was that basically coffee gets your fat cells to act like a source of energy as opposed to glycogen and also increases your metabolism. Soon enough I saw the results for myself. A cup of cappuccino, taken about an hour before my workout would find me feeling very energetic and able to clock in about three miles more on the treadmill than what I could do on a non-coffee day. It also improved my endurance and I was able to finish more reps while weightlifting.
This got me interested enough to research further and before I knew it, I was looking for a good coffee maker. I had a bad experience with my first one which quit on me within 6 months. No matter how much I got it fixed it gave me a tough time and I finally realized there was no point in throwing good money after bad and decided to go for a new one. This is how I landed up with the Cuisinart SS-10 Premium Single-Serve Coffeemaker. And it’s been absolutely fantastic so far!
User Friendly Brewer
There is a boat-load of features in this. On the front-end, there’s a blue lit LCD which has menu controls that are programmable and can be reset. The menu includes a digital clock, an auto on/off option with the default set to 30 minutes. This means the machine sleeps off after 30 minutes of inactivity. This option is a life saver for me because I usually get up after the alarm clock goes off 10 times, have to make a dash and usually end up leaving something or the other switched on. So this keeps my apartment safe (and my landlord happy).
Also, there are two temperature options to choose from- hot and extra hot. It comes in 5 cup sizes available from 4 ounces to 12 ounces respectively with a 2 ounce increment. You can choose a default option (like mine is the travel mug- 12 ounces) so that every time you want coffee you don’t have to choose the size.
Apart from the menu control, the front-end features three buttons. One is the ‘Hot Water’ button, in case you want to make tea, hot chocolate or even instant noodles. Then there is the ‘Rinse’ button to clean up the brew compartment quickly and is useful if you have many people with different preferences using the machine. The last is the ‘Brew’ button for your steaming mug of bliss. It also has an iced beverage setting for summer use.
Brews Any Type of K-Cups
It is all k-cups friendly. In fact, on the right side of the machine is a compartment within which is kept your own Cuisinart reusable filter cup for grinding your own beans. This is a thoughtful addition. The power button is at the bottom of right side. On the left side is a water reservoir which can hold a maximum of 72 ounces. This is simply great especially if you find refilling the machine after every cup annoying (I do). It also suits a large family. The reservoir is detachable and comes with charcoal water filter. The tray sign is bigger than an average machine’s. It is also detachable and thus suitable for all mug sizes.
Double Needle Technology
The machine uses the Double Needle Technology. Essentially, there are two needles – one at the top and the other at bottom which would puncture the seal of the k-cups. Physically, the SS-10 has an appealing box-like build with some steel parts and plastic housing. It gives off an aura of sophistication and is perfect for your home.
- Works with all types of k-cups
- 72 Oz removable reservoir
- 5 beverage sizes
- Hot water button
- Rinse feature
- Three year warranty
- BPA free
Pros & Cons
The things I liked the most about this coffee maker include the following:
- Instant coffee without any waiting
- Best taste ever
- Basket can be stored inside the brewer
- Affordable with great quality
If I’m being honest, there are a couple of things that I didn’t like. For example:
- Mostly plastic body
- Is a little expensive
Making coffee with this brewer is very simple and fast. All you need to do it put in your k- cup (Dark Magic of the Green Mountain Coffee is my favorite); pick your size and press brew and Voila! Sit back and enjoy your coffee!
